After boarding the “Missing Linq” bus, we’re happy to report we’ve arrived safely in Sao Paulo, Brazil!

It was exhilarating to watch this journey through the eyes of our students! From first flights to first field tests of their Portuguese, this was just the beginning of many new experiences. One of which was kisses and hugs as they were greeted by their host families. As the host families showed up, you could feel the warmth as parents called out for their (your) “sons and daughters” for the next two weeks. Many of them took the day off from work to ensure their new family members had a wonderful first day in the Sao Paulo.

A few students joined us for lunch in the college food court and quickly learned that ordering by number is as elementary in Portuguese as in English. Some were familiar, such as eggplant and fried chicken, but we also enjoyed some Virado a Paulista, a traditional Sao Paolo dish with beans, meat and greens, and Farofa, a mix of cornmeal, spices and sausage. It’s just the beginning of a culinary adventure!

If you are reading this before morning, pray everyone sleeps well.  We’ll all meet back up at 9am (8am your time) to start our day with a “Welcoming Ceremony” with students and staff at the University (Universidade Methodist de Sao Paulo).
