Let me just say that I love my major. I have often been asked “why business?” “Do you really want to sit in a cubicle for the rest of your life?” Sometimes it was hard to think of any actual reasons I had made this decision. Back in Rochester, Enactus is truly a blessing because it reminds me that the business world is not just sitting at a desk and pecking at a keyboard all day. There are plenty of adventures to be had in an office, and the business department at Metodista is no exception to this.

When first walking into the business office at Metodista, I feared I would be watching data being entered into spreadsheets. This fear lasted about 0.5 seconds, because as soon as we were ushered into the room for introductions, the room lit up with smiles. Only a few spoke English, but this did not stop the rest from eagerly working to chat with us through either their coworkers or google translate. By the end of my first hour with this group, we were comfortable and laughing like we had known each other for years. These folks are bursting with light, love, and coffee.

Business students and faculty from Roberts(not so different after all).

Another aspect of the business world is large companies. Scania, a vehicle manufacturing company, generously welcomed many of our group to their facility. We were taken on super cool golf carts I might addthrough the many warehouses required to assemble semis.

On the road again…Kind of.

After seeing the process, we were led to a building filled with delicious snacks—another specialty of the business world, apparentlythen we each got to take an actual semi for a spin around their test track. I was nearly overflowing with excitement as I climbed (by step ladder) into the vehicle. There was only momentary panic when the thing actually started moving. It is wonderful experiences like theseMetodista’s business office and Scaniathat remind me why I love the world of business.
